Aboriculture
Western Landscape Services is your Kingston Tree Care specialist. There is more to tree care than just trimming branches and cutting down trees. At Western Landscape Services we are serious about tree care. So serious that we have certified ISA Arborists and Horticulturists on staff to evaluate, plan and execute a specialized tree care program for your trees and shrubs. If it is determined that we do need to cut down your tree we have a program to reuse the wood into furniture. You can get more details on our 'renewable resources' wood products and garden art program here.
Pruning
Pruning large Coniferous and Deciduous trees should be done with an understanding of how the tree responds to each cut. Western Landscape Services has specialized equipment and provides the services of an ISA Arborist and trained crew to safely and effectively meet the pruning needs of your tree. Proper pruning techniques with an understanding of tree biology can maintain good tree health and structure while enhancing the aesthetic and economic values of our landscapes. Common reasons for pruning include:
- building clearance,
- removing dead branches,
- removing crowded, rubbing limbs, or lower branches
- eliminating hazards
- increasing light and air penetration inside the crown or to the landscape below
- removing diseased or insect infested branches/limbs
- creating better structure to withstand weather elements
Consultation
Seek the advice of our ISA Arborists and/or Horticulturists who have developed a set of guidelines for assessment of your site. Through Western Landscape Services 'Tree Maintenance Program' we can help you plan, develop, install, and care for all your trees both residential and commercially. The following reports can determine the value, size, species or classification, condition or location of trees:
1. Arborists Consultation Assessment Report
- Assess coniferous and deciduous trees, shrubs and evergreens.
- The survey will include tree number species, size of a tree (DBH), crown class, health structure, condition rating, and suitability for preservation. This form may be used for tree bi-law requirements.
- ISA Evaluation of hazard trees in urban areas.
Tree Fertilization
Fertilizer applications are used during the growing season to improve the health, vigor, and appearance of trees. Western Landscape Services has specialized equipment to inject the soil around trees with slow release suspended fertilizers. This complete micronutrient formula is safe for the tree and is recommended to apply every 2 years. Our specialists will determine what time of the year the application of tree fertilization is applied. This route is often taken to relieve trees that are under stress.
Tree Aeration
Compaction of the soil by foot/vehicular traffic or grade changes can deplete the air exchange to tree roots. Using specialized equipment, Western Landscape Services drills holes in the ground around the root zone 'aerating' the soil premises. As a result, the soil structure is improved around the tree and in turn root growth and water infiltration uptake can be enhanced.
Cabling and Bracing
Tree limbs may lose structural integrity which may be due to environmental hazards such as wind, snow or rain storms. Understanding tree mechanics and a fundamental understanding of engineering is our specialty to this tree altering skill. If branches or tree trunks need additional support, the arborist may be able to install cables or bracing rods to prolong its life. Trees that are close to houses or other buildings can be maintained to keep them structurally sound - an alternative to removal!
